Lacy Ombré Infinity Scarf

Everyone needs a simple, lacy scarf for their collection!
This ombré infinity scarf is made with a skein of Patons Lace, in the color Patina. I used size 6 circular needles, to get a nice drape. This scarf is knit in the round.
CO 360, join
Row 1-4: knit
Row 5: *k2tog, yo, repeat * to end
Repeat rows 1-5 as many times as you want, ending with a row 4.
BO loosely
Weave in ends, and you are all finished.
Because stockinette stitch curls, the wrong side is the one showing. I did not try to block it, but instead decided that I liked it. My finished scarf is about 72" x 7".
I hope you enjoy this pattern!
Xoxo, Alyssa

  1. I love it! The colours are gorgeous, and I agree that the curled stockinette stitch looks lovely. Amazing how effective a simple pattern can be - and thanks for sharing the pattern :)

  2. Love this scarf. How many skeins did you use, and how many yards per skein? I went to Patons web site and the Lace yarn is not there. Joann's web site has it, but the close up picture of it doesn't look like what you used in your scarf. It might be difficult to get the varying shades captured.

    1. There are 498 yards per skein. The close up picture does not seem to show the full color range of the yarn, but each skein does go from white to black.

    2. Sorry, I forgot to say that I used one skein of the yarn.

  3. Correction: I commented earlier that I could not find this yarn on Patons web site, but just found it. My mistake. I think this scarf would be lovely in either the Patina or the Porcelain. Can't wait to try both.

  5. Alyssa: This is so beautiful. I think it has inspired me to pick my knitting needles back up after a long time off. I have Size 6 (metal)circulars in 29" length. Would those be long enough?

    1. I only used a 32" set, so I think they'll be long enough.

    1. The beauty of simple patterns is how they let the yarn shine.

  7. Hi Alyssa. What a beautiful cowl. I have a skein of Madeline Tosh Light yarn, do you think that would work with your pattern?

    1. That yarn seems to be lighter than what I used, but I think as long as you adjust needle sizes it will be fine. You may need more than one skein since the yarn is thinner.

  8. How many rows did you use to make the scarf in the picture?

  9. I did 59 rows total. 11 pattern repeats, plus the 4 rows of knitting to end.

  11. I made this scarf, it's really quite nice. My problem is the entire thing rolls and I can't get it to lay flat. Not just the edges are rolled, the entire thing looks like a long snake, I'm so disappointed. It's acrylic yarn so I can't block it. Any suggestions? TIA

    1. Try crocheting a top and bottom border, or knitting garter stitch borders

  12. why can't you block it. I block acrylic yarn all the time.

    1. Only natural fibres block, man made fibres do not block, they only stretch.

  13. This is a lovely scarf. You are saying that this is stockinette but the pattern says: Rows 1-4 Knit which is garter stitch. Which way is it supposed to be?

    1. Since it’s knit in the round, you just knit every row to create stockinette.
